Direct Air Capture (DAC) is an emerging technology to extract CO₂ directly from the atmosphere, offering a promising solution to combat climate change. Unlike their high-temperature counterparts (300–900 ºC), low temperature DAC systems operate at more moderate temperatures, making them more energy-efficient and potentially more cost-effective.
Based on our research into DAC companies, we found that the core of low temperature DAC lies in the regeneration process of sorbent materials. We have analyzed and summarized these industrial low temperature DAC systems based on:
- liquid sorbents
- solid sorbents
- electrochemistry
- biotechnology
These DAC systems operate at temperatures below 300 ºC. Most of them operate even under 150 ºC. This significantly lowers energy consumption and operational expenses compared to their high-temperature counterparts. As a result, low-temperature DAC has the potential to play a pivotal role in meeting ambitious carbon removal goals.
